Welcome to The Merlin

The Merlin is a real country pub with a difference, located between Wilmslow and Alderley Edge on the Wilmslow Road nestling above the gorgeous Cheshire Plain. The pub dates back to the 1880’s when it was one of the grandest private residences in what was then the new wealthy enclave created by Sir Thomas de Trafford.

The pub has been wonderfully restored to its former glory incorporating the values of traditional pub hospitality together with modern designs featuring stone fired ovens, log burning hearths, deep leather seating and spacious teak furniture.

The menu is simple but up-to-the-minute with lots of comfort appeal, with homely things like pizzas, steaks and pasta with some more global dishes to keep things lively. Will, the manager, has worked closely with Guy, our head chef, to ensure our menu is suited for all occasions, whether you choose to pop in for a quick sandwich or light lunch, a Sunday roast, or a catch up with friends over drinks. We also ensure that our freshly made specials are created using fresh produce and with seasonal appeal.

Our wine list contains a wide range of New and Old world wines that suit all occasions and styles, ranging from traditional Clarets to Pink Pinot Grigio. We also stock lots of Champagnes for when you wish to celebrate a special occasion or even make an ordinary occasion special!

Our well stocked bar has 10 different beers on tap ranging from perfectly chilled Continental lagers, to European speciality beers, as well as some of the finest cask ales in the region.

The atmosphere at The Merlin is relaxed, friendly and informal. The most important ingredient at The Merlin is the people that will look after you; you will love the warmth and hospitality that will make your visit a memorable one.

Opening Times

We now serve food all day until 10.00pm Monday to Wednesday, and until 10.30pm Thursday to Saturday. On a Sunday we now open our dining room until 9.30pm.

Additionally, we have extended our pub opening times until 11.30pm midweek and at the weekend you can now extend your stay with us until 12.30am.
